Chapter Nineteen

Present

When we arrive at the safe house, Graham calls his brother only to have it go straight to voicemail. “Fuck,” he mutters. Juliet raises from her spot on the sofa and goes to Graham, rubs his tense shoulders. “Where the fuck is he?”

“Maybe he figured it out and he’s on his way over here. Maybe what she did worked. If he told Doyle that Arizona was with Amelia, they’d be on the next flight” I say.

“I’ll keep trying him.”

“I’ll call Sven, you go blow off some steam. You owe your girl,” I remind him. “I’ll check in on Arizona in a little, let her sleep for now, she needs the rest. This is going to get worse before it gets better for her. She’s in shock and denial, that’s not going to last for long.”

Graham nods and reaches out his hand for Juliet. She places her hand in his and allows him to lead her out of the room.

I reach for my burner phone and text Sven…SOS, call me

I wait for maybe five minutes and then my phone rings. “Talk to me” he orders.

“I’ve run into a few issues over here” I state.

“Still can’t get it up, Roman?” he laughs.

“Fuck off and that’s not the issue.”

“What’s wrong?”

“Well, let me see where I should begin. How about with the fact that Juliet and Graham are together? Apparently, they met before they knew they’d be working together. You know my feelings on that topic, especially after Mac and my sister. But Juliet’s been subbing for Graham in the clubs for a while and honestly, they handled themselves rather well under the circumstances. Then we found Amelia and the shit show got worse. She had a girl with her that we planned to use as my sub. She would hook up with Graham and Juliet, but guess who she turned out to be?”

“I’m afraid to ask.”

“And very well you should be. She’s Arizona Doyle. Now that would be bad enough, but it gets better.”

“Not possible.”

“She’s dating Hunter King.”

“Oh, shit.”

“Yep, Graham almost blew chunks when he thought he was going to have to fuck his brother’s girl. It was kind of funny, actually. Talk about not getting it up.”

“He giving you shit?”

“Course he is.”

“So, what’s the plan? What do you need?”

“Where’s Hunter?”

“Don’t know” Sven says.

“My guess is he’s on his way over here. Arizona told us that she called him and said Amelia was her cousin. I guess Amelia was listening in on the conversation. If Hunter told Doyle, I’d put money on them flying out on the first flight they were able to manage. With Stone at their disposal, I’m sure that meant immediately on his private jet with Mac in tow.”

“Let me get back to you” Sven says then hangs up.

I walk to Arizona’s door and gently open it to peer in. She’s curled in a ball, sound asleep. I leave her door ajar then go back to the living room and pour myself a drink just as my phone chirps. “What’d you find out?” I ask Sven.
